Walter Gibbons was one of the very first disco djs, pioneering the use of double copies to extend drum breaks as far back as 1972. He was also the first DJ to officially remix a track, Double Exposure’s “Ten Percent”, which the first commercially available 12″ single. Today’s selection is his highly sought after remix of TC James & the Fist O Funk Orchestra’s, “Get On Your Feet (Keep On Dancing)”.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not one for the orchestral, “Philly” sound. However, Gibbons’ specialty is taking tracks like these and stripping them down (sorta like, you know-House music). For this remix, he cuts down the role of the vocal to a mere prelude to the juicy instrumental that occupies the majority of it’s 11+ minutes.
